Whereas in Alan Wake it felt like the pages you found fit the theme (a writer whose work is coming true), here it feels like a crutch. If you were diligent in your first trek through the game, though, you could breeze through all of the empty spaces and skip all the nonsense in a second run. All told it was probably five minutes of standing still, reading text. There’s a moment where I walked into a lab and a character said to me “I found these files on the computer, printed them out and put them on that table over there.” I turned around to see five pieces of paper sitting on a desk (see above), each representing a lengthy email chains or document to read through. You would have a completely different understanding of the story if you missed or skimmed over one lengthy note in particular.īut they’re awful storytelling, and they completely kill the pacing. Are the problems on the developer side, as they get used to a new way of interfacing with the PC? Are they driver issues? Engine-related? With two semi-busted DX12 launches in the span of the last month, it’s inevitable people start casting sidelong looks in Microsoft’s direction. Hell, I personally upgraded my desktop to Windows 10 for Quantum Break after nine months of putting it off. As was Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, another Microsoft-published game, which was a dumpster fire when it launched. Worse still, Quantum Break is supposed to be a big DirectX 12 showcase for Microsoft. This kind of corner-cutting usually doesn’t happen when you start off development with the PC in mind. It certainly doesn’t feel like a PC version was planned from the start, regardless of whether (as Sam Lake told MCV last month) Remedy was “pushing for” it. I have no means of knowing whether this is the case, but it smells like Microsoft or Remedy last-minute decided to bring Quantum Break to the PC. Speaking of which, recommended specs are also high but those looking for maximum settings and 60+ FPS probably have better rigs than the suggested ones anyway. Technically, we could give Remedy the benefit of the doubt and believe that the minimum requirements refer to running the game at 1080p with 60FPS but considering their history of poor PC optimisation, we are inclined to believe this is not the case.Īnyway, the minimum RAM requirement is still at 8GB, extended to 16GB for the recommended specifications. Control is not exclusive to this advanced version of PlayStation 4 which means it will run on the regular one, which is much less powerful. If you look closely, you will notice that these minimum requirements exceed the specifications of PlayStation 4 Pro. GTX 1060 and RX 580 are the minimum requirements with RTX 2060 suggested if you want ray tracing. The optimisation on GPU front is no better really. While Intel i7 3770 and AMD FX-8350 are normally enough to run any game that has a console version, this will not be the case with Control since the minimum requirements include i5 7500 or Ryzen 3 1300X. PC requirements for Control have been released on Epic Games Store now and the minimum requirements are anything but modest. At least on PC, since consoles didn't have as much trouble. Remedy Games seem to be running in the Worst Optimisation Candidacy elections once again, following their stint when Quantum Break was released and proved to be running as smoothly as styrofoam over sandpaper.
